The False Prophecies About 2014
(he is gonna kill me for this) i read this piece and i taught i share it.
I
am reading the many contradictory predictions for 2014 here on Facebook
and in some national dailies and I have almost fallen off my stool with
laughter even though I know I should be tearing up or writhing in pain
right now! At first I was peeved by the brazen lies and speculations
that my fellows in the ministry can contrive to gain recognition or to
continue controlling crowds but wisdom demands that I find a way to
relax or I might lose my mind. So I laugh.
I will try and save us all some controversies by not mentioning names because I am certain that some of my readership will find the names of their favorite preachers among those whose prophecies I despise. The result will then be that people will place curses on me (curses that will not work); they will pity my lack of spiritual understanding; or, they will simply ignore the important and disturbing picture being painted in this article. I only care about the latter; I do not want this message to be disregarded! So, I will not bore you with those names nor will I allow any to be distracted from the most important issue, which is fighting falsehood in Christendom.
Quite clearly, many of these 2014 predictions about Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, state governors, Lamido Sanusi, PDP, etc, are mere educated and well contemplated guesses! Will the prophets resign if things turn out the way they had not anticipated and their words fall to the ground? I feel very disappointed when most of them chorus something like ‘We should be careful about the merger called APC, it might crash.’ Why can’t they just say ‘It will crash in September’?
What do you say about a situation where one of the predictions for 2014 is that there will be a plane crash – the prophet even describes the plane but asks the church to pray against it – and another prophet seems to be saying that the aviation industry in Nigeria will witness improvement and increased patronage?
Who should we believe? Surely, there is an underlying rot in this prophetic system and we cannot wait to see who is eventually right. Most of these prophets have given predictions that came true at one time and all of them have also at some point given a competing number of predictions that did not happen. If the most important mark of a true prophet is that his words come to pass 100% of the time as did the prophets of Bible days, then our current situation presents a quagmire. Shouldn’t every selfless, genuine and truthful prophet remain mute if he has not heard from God rather than predicting the future merely because it is 31st December or 1st January? I think the Nigerian culture of yearly prophecies in itself inserts God into a curious pigeon hole that leaves more questions than answers. The culture pushes hard on pastors to utter kindly words of blessings on their followers; words that are often construed as prophetic words even when they are clearly mere wishes. Imagine that Christians can take words like ‘it shall be well with you in 2014’ as serious prophecy!
The mythical ‘word of God’ being peddled by practitioners of mind-control has outweighed the value of the Christian’s Bible, a book I have come to cherish with all my heart. I have read tens of books about this one book and it has not ceased to amaze me how beautiful God made the Bible. I have come to conclude that He did this so that we can find it easy to trust His words in the book and so that we can find it hard to follow the strange voices we will hear in this world, no matter how full of promise and similar to God’s voice they might sound.
Did you know that the books in the Bible were written by up to 40 different authors drawn from various backgrounds – kings, princes, poets, paupers, fishermen, prophets, etc – whose lives spanned a period of 1,500 years and yet each of them were communicating basically the same thing without disagreement whatsoever? Did you know that each of the 66 books directly or indirectly contain messianic prophetic information about Jesus and many other prophecies that have shaped the course of history?
Surprisingly, many who have made contact with this book have still yielded themselves to deceiving spirits and the blinding power of the prince of this world who darkens the hearts of men so that they do not accept or believe the truth and as a result, they perish. I have to ask myself every time if I am under the influence of a familiar spirit or if I am being led by the spirit of God. We are not to be so spiritual that we do not assess our environment. God’s word challenges all believers to test all spirits and commands them to hold fast only to that which is of God.
Even though it is now a culture to give out these so-called prophecies of national interest every January and even though more and more preachers are buying into the scam, I am yet to understand the spiritual purpose it serves. I am only sure that the personal interest of the person who gives the word is protected as those affected in any gloomy prediction want to stay God’s hand by buying his favor through gifts to the prophet.
Bible prophecy sets the timeline for events and one of the things it does not do is tell us when the Lord will come back for the saints. It could be any day now but from these prophecies, it is clear that the coming of the Lord will not be until after 2015. Clearly, the prophets, in their preoccupation with 2015 and the speculation about elections and whether or not there will still be the entity called Nigeria, have forgotten that there is such a thing as the hereafter!
Today at the church where I worshipped, the pastor decided to read Hebrews 1:1-3 and that was when I began to scribble the first few paragraphs for this article. He pointed out in passing that the time when God dealt with His people through prophets had passed but that we were now in that time in which God deals with us through His Son, or more practically speaking, His Word.
How true! But people are mostly blinded by the god of this world and they will not pay attention to the principles, teachings, exhortations and corrections from God’s written word, preferring to hold on to a phase that God abandoned with the completion of scripture – the prophetic.
I am challenging prophets to solve real problems by training their followers in righteousness rather than predicting football match results, election results and other irrelevancies. They should stop saying that the polity will be full of intrigues and that things will later on change! Of course, we know that that is what will happen!! I challenge them to stop predicting plane crashes in a corrupt country that is failing in its efforts to revamp its aviation sector. I challenge them to shun ambiguous statements like ‘Somebody will receive a visitation that will change the course of his life’ as that is what happens to someone somewhere everyday! I challenge them to stop predicting scandals in the Roman Catholic Church, the Presbyterian Church and other churches as these scandals are to be expected in organizations. These are the last days!
It is more
important for a pastor to remain in the church and teach believers the
word of God than to seek popularity or try to grandstand with these
predictions. If anything, they have set us back, taking attention from
God and focusing it on His POWERFUL MEN of God. If God reveals these
things to the prophet so that prayer will change them, then the prophet
and his inner caucus of prayer warriors should pray about them rather
than request sinning, godless masses to be the ones to avert danger by
praying.
When will Christian ministers return to the church and focus on training God’s people in the word? I am reading Ephesians 4:7-16 and the most important people that ministers should focus on are in the church. Our ministry to the world is to present the plan of salvation and not to curtsy with sycophantic words of false prophecies at the sight of office holders. Other than the simple plan of salvation, the prophets of today have only one duty to failing leaders. It is to observe their work and give stern rebuke where necessary, not to offer comforting words of foreknowledge!
Jeremiah, Micaiah, Daniel. They all warned the leaders of their day or engaged in civil disobedience to express their allegiance to God and some of these prophets paid for it with incarceration. How is it that those who prophesy to governments today are rewarded with cars and millions of naira?
I am hurt way past crying! I can only laugh now as I
think of the depth to which we have been dragged. ‘We’ is for pastors
and preachers of the gospel. Our duty, heralding the good news of the
kingdom of God and shepherding believers in Christ, is a holy calling
which ought to be the envy of all those who have not been accorded such a
blessed ministry. But we have become the laughing stock of the day
because of these false brethren. Some genuine pastors are even ashamed
to be introduced as such because of what these false brethren have done
with the office.
Everyone, be warned: 2014 is a different kind of year. People will turn away and begin to seek the truth with all of their minds and in doing so, they will reject all falsehood! Selah.
