St. Dennis Catholic Church, Akoka Bariga, Lagos whose 20-year-old security guard, Michael Nwaogwu allegedly stole N2,385 from an offering box has been charged to court by the court. He appeared in a Yaba magistrate's court in Lagos in yesterday. Nwaogwu was charged by the police with theft. The stolen money was discovered by another security guard, one Musa Ayay in the church after he discovered that the offering box was tampered with. If found convicted, he is liable to 3 years imprisonment in contravention of Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised). For N2,385? The laws must be crazy.

The hospital employees, including the son of the Chief Medical Director, were kidnapped last week Tuesday at the Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State while returning from Lagos, where they had gone to purchase drugs for the health facility. Over 41 suspects have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command after rescuing seven victims, including three employees of the Lafia Hospital, Apata, Ibadan, who were kidnapped on Saturday. It was only then the police found out that there were several other persons who were also kidnapped and whose cases were unreported.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo paid a condolence visit to the family of Precious Owolabi, slain reporter of Channels Television. Owolabi was killed during a clash between members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and the police on Monday. Until his death, he was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). According to NAN, Osinbajo visited Owolabi’s family in Zaria, Kaduna state, urging them to “take heart”, adding that the loss of the corps member would never be forgotten. Speaking with journalists, Shu’aibu Ibrahim, NYSC director-general, said the visit of Osinbajo is an indication that the government cares.

The Federal Government has lamented that Most Nigerian marriages are illegal, only 314 worship centres have licence to conduct weddings . The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Barr. Georgina E. Ehuriah, revealed that only about 4, 689 licensed places of worship in Nigeria have updated their records with the Ministry of Interior, of which only 314 have renewed their licenses. According to her, the Interior ministry already has a database of all places of worship licensed for marriages, and is currently building a database of all statutory marriages conducted in Nigeria. The implication of this is that marriages conducted in unlicensed places of worship are not in line with the Marriage Act and cannot serve legal purposes when the need arises, and such unlicensed places of worship are operating contrary to Section 6(1) of the Marriage Act. Before you conduct that marriage, ensure that your church has renewed its license to avoid 'hard I known' when the need arise.

Divaviva111.com learnt that one of the airline’s aircraft, a Boeing 737-500 with registration number 5N-BQM, was involved in a serious incident en-route Lagos from Abuja on Tuesday at about 3:07 pm with 27 passengers and six crew members on board. According to the Nations three herdsmen Muhammed Adamu, Saliu Ismail and Saliu Adamu, have been arrested for allegedly killing a farmer, Rafiu Sowemimo, 40, on Sunday, at Adao village in Alabata, Ogun State The suspects were said to have allowed their cattle stray into the farm of the deceased thereby destroying his crops, an action Sowemimo protested. A lady, Bolanle Muhammed, and four others have now been arrested for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old man wrongly accused of phone theft. The incident occurred at about 8pm at a beverage shop in Badore. Muhammed, who’s the shop owner, was said to have raised alarm that the victim, Olamide Omolegbe, stole her phone which led to a mob descending on him. read here for full details. Flight out of Asaba to Abuja and Lagos on Saturday was shifted from the first flight of the morning to 3:30pm and from 3:30pm to a point of no information only to be told their flifhts were cancelled without any apologies from the management of Air Peace. A 22 year-old man identified as Olumide Omolede had gone out to charge his phone at a nearby store due to power outage. He was accused of stealing an iPhone, beaten to death, his body thrown into the lagoon but sadly, the said phone was later found with the son of his accuser. According to LIB, the incident occurred at  Badore, Ajah area of Lagos shortly after he went to a nearby store to charge his phone for a fee.  The lady who claimed her phone was stolen, reportedly brought in the thugs who killed and threw the body of the deceased into the lagoon. Speaking to Premium Times, an eyewitness revealed that the deceased was first paraded half-naked to Iyalaye Store where the alleged theft occurred, before being beaten to death.  “After he eventually died, the thugs threw him into the lagoon. A SpiceJet technician has been killed after the landing gear door of the aircraft he was working on got shut at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday. The incident took place around 1.45 am. "The technician was carrying out maintenance on the landing gear of the Bombardier Q400 plane when the landing door accidentally got closed and he got stuck there," said an official at Kolkata airport. A complaint on "unnatural death" was filed at Airport police station, a senior police officer said. Meanwhile, SpiceJet said in a statement, Extremely saddened to share that our technician Rohit Pandey passed away last night in an unfortunate incident at Kolkata airport. The SpiceJet added, Inadvertently, the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps. The hydraulic doors were broken to rescue Mr Pandey but he was declared dead. The entire SpiceJet family stands together in grief in this unfortunate incident.

according to report, a candidate from Bayelsa State with Registration Number 95329290ED identified as Cletus Kokowa was arrested at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, after he paid N10,000 to the syndicate group he contacted via Whatsapp.  It was alleged that the group specialises in switching the results of successful candidates to those who pay for an upgrade. The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Okowa who three weeks ago had announced his cabinet today swore in Hon. Peter Mrakpor Esq together with other commissioner with a charge on them to hit the ground running and offer only the best of services to the people. Speaking at a brief swearing-in ceremony held in Asaba the capital city of the oil rich state said the new cabinet members were appointed based on their track record, expertise and experience, and as such they must immediately settle down in office and inject new ideas to reinvigorate and reenergize government machinery to the overall benefit of the people. He apologised for the late swearing in after they were screened and confirmed.

A seven man Ad-Hoc committee has been set up by the Senate to investigate the video of the assault incident by Elisha Abbo, a Peoples Democratic Party senator. A point of order raised by Uba Sani (APC, Kaduna Central) said the video has gone a long way in tarnishing the image and credibility of the Senate. “As a member of this Senate, my own credibility is at stake. Recall that shortly after the video of a Nigerian Senator, Mohammed Adamu seen in a 10 mins clip slapping a young woman, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has now ordered the arrest of Senator Elisha Abbo and his orderly. The senator was caught on camera assaulting a lady inside a sex shop in Abuja sometime in May with his orderly watching without protecting the lady. The police boss gave the order following the public outcry after the assault video surfaced online. Senator Abbo has reacted to the backlash he has so far received. In a chat with Channels TV today, Abbo accused his political enemies of trying to tarnish his image by using a doctored video from an event that happened before he was sworn into office. In a video which has since gone viral, Senator Abbo can be seen slapping a lady repeatedly before asking an armed officer to take her away. Despite Watching the embarrassing moment caught on camera and released by PremiumTimes an online tabloid, the wife of the Senator Emily Eric via her Facebook page share a post whicheck has since been deleted. She wrote; "I stand with you babana And we will always stand for truth My husband is innocent of what people are saying against him" she wrote. The post has since been deleted from her Facebook handle.

The body of a suspected stowaway fell from a plane shortly before it landed at Heathrow Airport. The man's body fell into a garden in Clapham, south London at 3.41pm on Sunday, according to a statement from airline operator Kenya Airways. It is thought the man had been hiding in the undercarriage of the aircraft before his fall. The body narrowly missed a sunbather. The stunned owner of the garden called police who linked the discovery with a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Heathrow.  

The senior pastor of Commonwealth Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, has announced a suspension of a seven-day programme of the church. TheCable reports that the pastor said the “Holy Spirit” directed him to do so. Although he denied the allegation, the pastor has been widely criticised, with some Nigerians on Twitter asking him to step down. Protesters marched to his church in Lagos and Abuja on Sunday, mocking him and his members. But the pastor asked his congregation not to be provoked as they make their way out of the church. Jigawa state High Court has sentenced a Deputy Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Auwal Jibrin, to six years in jail for unlawful enrichment and gratification. The two men were sentenced on Friday following their prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kano zonal office. Acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, said the two convicts received N45m out of the N250m disbursed in Jigawa State to influence the outcome of the 2015 elections.
