Dr Joe Abah, a public service reformer, said he looks forward to Pastor Fatoyinbo suing Busola. He went on to reveal he has set some money aside to defend Busola in court. An Assistant Superintendent of Customs has reportedly died from injuries sustained in an ambush by suspected smugglers in the state. Hanan, the Law undergraduate of the Bayero University Kano, who has been accused of stabbing her husband, Saeed Hussein, at their home in Kano state on Friday June 21st, has said he died while she was trying to defend herself. According to her neighbors, Hanan who was found with a swollen face and bruises all over her body, had been tolerating her husband who allegedly tortured her at the slightest opportunity. Another neighbor stated that Hanan said her husband tried beating her up on the day of the incident despite knowing that she was pregnant. She said it was while she was protecting herself as her husband tried attacking her with a knife, that it mistakenly piereced into his body. Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, 2019 into law. By implication, the new law essentially covers repatriation of persons running away from justice back home for prosecution and recovery of stolen assets. Such offenders will be prosecuted and punished both at home and in countries where mutual assistance relationship with Nigeria exists.

This is a sad tale of a Nigerian man who had lived his life in Malaysian for good 9 years, only to come back home and was killed by assassins. What went wrong? Did he hurt anyone? Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has nominated top eight persons for appointment as commissioners and members of the state executive council. According to Gallant Reporters the nomination is contained in a letter to the Delta State House of Assembly read by the Speaker at today’s plenary. The nominees are Patrick Ukah, Patrick Muoboghare, Basil Ganagana, James Augoye, Peter Mrakpor, Chika Ossai, Festus Ochonogor and Florence Alanta. The nominees are to be screened by the House on Thursday, June 20. Governor Okowa also got the approval of the State Assembly to appoint 15 Special Advisers. Peter Mrakpor Esq who has received several commendations for setting the ministry on a high pedestal and for rising to the defence of the poor and vulnerable persons against abuse and oppression has been reappointed for another term. The Election Petitions Tribunal holding in Lagos state has dismissed the petitions filed by the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Owolabi Salis, and his Labour Party counterpart, Ifagbemi Awamaridi, challenging the victory of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the last election for inability of the petitioners to file their applications for Pre-hearing conference after the close of pleadings which according to the Electoral Act, they had seven(7) days. Time is an important consideration in the scheme of things as far as election petition before the courts are concerned. Most steps in the course of election petition are required to be taken within particular periods with failure to comply attracting serious consequences. Election Petition cases, though sui generis, are not free from time constraints as far as taking of certain steps in the course of such proceedings are concerned. The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, Imo state has upheld the decision of the Federal High Court in a suit agaginst PDP and granted victory to Governor Emeka Ihedioha. The appeal court has ruled that Senator Sam Anyanwu could not convince it on why it should reverse the decision of a lower court. Justice Raphael Chikwe Agbo says that Senator Anyanwu could not establish the facts in his claims The appeal court upheld the ruling of a Federal High Court which had dismissed a suit filed by Senator Sam Anyanwu concerning Ihedioha’s candidacy.

This is an embarrassing story about a young man who narrated how SARS officers allegedly accosted him on his way to the US embassy, detained him and threatened to make him miss his appointment if he didn't give them money.  He shared proof of a cash transaction he made to regain his freedom.   What a shame!!!

By a letter of withdrawal dated June 3, 2019 addressed to the Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecution signed by the complainant who is 24 years of age (name withheld) allegedly drugged at a  nightclub and gang-raped in a hotel at Lekki, Lagos, by two dropouts of Babcock University, wants the criminal suit filed against the defendants – Don-Chima and Olusegun, withdrawn. The letter, which was read in court by Justice Abiola Soladoye, the complainant attributed her decision to seek the withdrawal of the case to “intervention of family members”  and for the sake of her integrity. This withdrawal was vehemently opposed by the Directorate of Public Prosecution and lead state prosecutor. His reasons being that they do not have a directive from the office of the Attorney-General. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Governor has congratulated the member representing Okpe Constituency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his Ukwuani Constituency counterpart, Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor on their election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 7th Delta State House of Assembly. Governor Okowa in a statement in Asaba yesterday Monday lauded members of the 7th Assembly for their choice of Sheriff Oborevwori and Ochor Christopher Ochor as Presiding Officers of the 7th Assembly, noting that the duo will bring their experience to bear in the discharge of their duties. The Governor also congratulated other members of the House for their victory at the 2019 polls and urged them to bring their extensive knowledge and understanding of lawmaking to the service of the state.

Chinedum Orji, son of Theodore Orji, former governor of Abia state, has emerged speaker of the state house of assembly. Orji, who was the majority leader emerged speaker on Monday after being nominated by Munachim Alozie of Ugwunagbo state constituency. The nomination was seconded by Ginger Onwusibe of Isialangwa north respectively constituency. The father of the new speaker was governor of the state from 2007 to 2015. He is currently the senator-elect for Abia central.

Clara, a graduate of Abia State University, Uturu, Abia state and  estranged wife of former Enugu State  Governor Sullivan Chime, says she left her matrimonial home for fear of being killed by her husband. The allegation was made during a divorce proceeding filed by her husband and while under cross-examination by counsel for Chime, Paul Onyia, in the petition filed by ex-governor  for the dissolution of their 11-year-old marriage. Clara told the court that she met  her husband while he was governor and then they fell in love but things changed in 2013. She also alleged that her estranged husband had refused to allow her see her only child with him adding that she only sees him in church or open places. The Governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha has reversed the status of the newly converted Imo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Umuagwo, to its earlier polytechnic status. The immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, had at the twilight of his administration elevated the polytechnic to a university status and appointed a Vice Chancellor. Okorocha moved the polytechnic to Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state. But in a statement issued in Owerri, the state capital by the Secretary to the state government, Uche Onyeagucha, said that the governor has reversed the institution to its original status. The governor, according to the statement has appointed an acting rector, following the retirement of Wance Madu. The statement read “The visitor to Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rt. According to an official of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Emmanuel Agbo, the incident occurred when a Toyota Camry car coming from Kubwa area to Abuja city centre was hit by a trailer. Agbo told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene of the incident, that the impact of the contact with the trailer, which was travelling in the same direction, forced the car, with six passengers, off the road.
