A Palestinian teenager admitted to Harvard says he has been denied entry to the US after officials objected to his friends' social media posts. Ismail Ajjawi, who lives in Lebanon, says he was questioned for hours after arriving at Boston's airport on Friday. Mr Ajjawi, 17, says his visa was cancelled after immigration officials searched his phone and laptop. Despite his protests that he had nothing to do with the posts, he was found "inadmissible" to the US. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson Michael McCarthy says the decision was made "based on information discovered during the CBP inspection". Mr McCarthy declined to comment on the specifics of the case, citing confidentiality clauses. Mr Ajjawi, who was awarded a scholarship to study in the US, has since returned to Lebanon. A Bill that consolidates and modernises the rules relating to contempt of court has passed its third reading, Minister of Justice, Andrew Little says. Contempt of court includes disruptive behaviour in court, harmful publicity that interferes with fair trial rights, and untrue and damaging allegations aimed at the judiciary. “It is important the law is clear and accessible, and this Bill achieves that,” says Andrew Little. “Contempt of court undermines the integrity of the court system. The courts need powers to respond effectively to threats to the effective administration of justice,” says Andrew Little. Contempt laws have become increasingly antiquated, and needed to be modernised to fit the digital age. Amongst its provisions the new legislation clarifies that jurors must not turn to the internet to look things up or research information relevant to the trial before them. Atleast three people were killed and 10 were injured after riots broke out Saturday night in the capital of Honduras before a soccer game between two rival teams, officials said. The violence erupted outside the National Stadium in Tegucigalpa before the match between the Motagua and Olympia soccer clubs, after crowds threw objects at the Motagua team bus. Three players on the team were injured when the glass windows shattered, according to the team. The coach who led Nigeria to bronze at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics has been banned for life by FIFA for agreeing to receive bribes to fix soccer matches. Samson Siasia was punished in the latest case from the investigation into renowned Singaporean match-fixer Wilson Perumal. FIFA did not specify which games were investigated as it also fined Siasia 50,000 Swiss francs ($50,000) on Friday. ''Siasia agreed to receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation,'' FIFA said. Siasia coached Nigeria from December 2010 through October 2011 and again in 2016 when he also led the men's under-23s team at the 2016 Olympics where they beat Honduras 3-2 in the bronze medal match. Siasia is the latest person involved in the Rio Olympics to be convicted by FIFA of match fixing. In 2017, Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey was banned from soccer for life. No Olympic matches have been publicly identified as being fixed.

Recall that President Buhari had on Wednesday 13th August, 2019 signed a bill to law changing the name of the Nigerian Prisons Service to Nigerian Correctional Service. This bill was signed 11 years after it was first presented on the floor of the Senate. Surfice it to state that the dilapidation state of the Nigeria prisons demonstrates a condition that cannot guarantee the reformatory process of the inmates even with the change in its name and this can be attributed to the disregard for the welfare of the inmates and failure to implement the prison reforms recommendations. We therefore urge the government to look into the challenges facing the prisons. As fast we are concerned, no matter the name changed, it won't stop Nigerians from using the word 'prison' just as PHCN still remains NEPA as there hasn't been any major changes so far. The victim identified as Mr. Okoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), headed Galilee Police Station, Ute-Ogbeje Community in Ika North East L.G.A. According to the information, the police officer was kidnapped between Onicha-Ugbo and Issele-Uku along the Benin-Onitsha expressway by gunmen, who shot sporadically before whisking him to unknown destination. In a funny twist, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke denied the incident. Mr. Adeyinka stated that it was not the DPO who was kidnapped but the DPO’s friend.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo, of the Federal High Court in Abuja in a ruling on an ex parte application by the State Security Service, whose operatives arrested Sowore last Saturday has granted the DSS permission to detain the convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days. It was earlier held that the detention order would be renewable after the expiration of first 45 days on September 21. The hearing of the application was is as provided for by 27(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act, the use of the word,  “may”, in the provision “is directory” and not “discretionary”. After the 45 days expiration, they are at liberty to apply for another renewal.
