A 24-year-old woman, simply identified as Angela Job has appeared before a Tinubu Magistrate’s court in Lagos for allegedly biting off her friends eyelid during a fight over a debt.  The accused who entered a not guilty plea while standing trial on assault occasioning grievous harm, was said to have bitten off her friend’s eyelid during a fight in Lagos that broke out over the undisclosed amount of debt.

Hours after the National Bureau of Statistics released facts showing that Nigeria is in recession, the dollar bonds fell across the curve to their lowest level in more than two weeks. The 2023 issue chalked up the biggest losses, down 0.728 cents to trade at 99.417 cents in the dollar - its lowest since Aug. 15, according to Tradeweb data. Nigeria’s second largest commercial carrier, Aero Contractors Airlines, has suspended its scheduled services beginning from Thursday September 1, 2016. In a statement released by the carrier’s management today, it was stated that the airline had faced grave challenges in the past six months which impacted its business and scheduled services operations.

Pop star Chris Brown  has been released on bail following his dramatic arrest after a tense 11-hour stand-off with police. According to records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, he was released on £250,000 bail today. The star's attorney Mark Geragos tweeted shortly after:

A man is seriously crying foul after his son was killed by police officers in really suspicious circumstances. A teenager identified as Master Innocent Kokorifa has been allegedly killed by a police team in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The boy was killed on August 18, 2016.

This is the first picture of a teacher found dead suspecting of slaughtering his wife and three sons in a murder-suicide at the family home. Alan Hawe and wife Clodagh were found dead in the downstairs of the property by police before sons Liam, 13, Niall, 11 and six-year-old Ryan were discovered upstairs. Police are understood to believe Mr Hawe stabbed his wife and three children to death before turning the knife on himself.

A pastor, Timothy Ngwu, was on Monday docked at an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for allegedly marrying another man’s wife, daughter as well as another woman. The pastor’s wife, Veronica Ngwu, was said to have petitioned the court over the development. The victims whom Mr. Ngwu converted to his “wives” were said to be members of his church: Gods’ Favour Ministry, Nsukka.

Brazil's suspended President Dilma Rousseff has defended her record during her impeachment trial in the Senate. She is accused of illegally manipulating the budget to hide a growing deficit. Ms Rousseff said her conscience was "absolutely clean" and that she had not committed any crime. Senators are due to vote later this week on whether to remove her from office for good or whether to reinstate her.

A top police officer stationed at the Airport District in Accra, Superintendent Felix Agbenyegah Anyidoho, who has been arrested, is facing administrative enquiry for allegedly engaging in fraudulent activities. Superintendent Anyidoho, the Crime Officer at the Airport Police Station, was said to have been handcuffed alongside a junior colleague of his and taken to the Police Headquarters last Thursday.

An auto technician was crushed to death yesterday in Onitsha area of Anambra state after a trailer driver failed break and lost control, rammed into him him while working. This sad incident happened along 3-3 road in Onitsha while the mechanic was at his workshop working on a car.

A man who killed his wife and daughter by setting them ablaze is currently on the run. The deceased, a 43-year-old teacher, Gbemisola Edward, and her 11-year-old daughter, Dolapo, were confirmed dead at an Ogun State hospital after suffering from severe burns. According to The Punch the woman’s husband, Joshua, was said to have poured petrol on her, their daughter, and his seven-year-old son, Samson, and set fire on them over a dispute concerning the sale of the property they lived in.

A Brazil-based Nigerian, Okeh Desmond Simon has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for trafficking in cocaine by Justice Abdulazeez Anka of a Federal High Court in Lagos. Swimmer Nick Thomas has died while trying to cross the English Channel. The 45-year-old endurance athlete, from Ellesmere in Shropshire, had been swimming for around 16 hours when he got into difficulties, the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation told the BBC. A tweet from Enduroman events paid tribute to Mr Thomas, stating: "Our friend Nick Thomas left us whilst doing what he loved - he just kept going. The Lagos State Police Command arrested a 27 year old man, Chigozie Egegonye, for allegedly planning the kidnap of his sister, Franca. An 83 year old man on a wheel chair, Michael Downing was dismembered by his neighbors' savage dogs in Jacksonville, Florida. Suspected Fulani herdsmen, Thursday morning, attacked Ndiagu Attakwu community, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, killed ‎a seminarian of the Catholic Church and wounded several others. The incident came barely four months after a similar attack on Nimbo community left several persons dead. The armed herdsmen stormed the community at about 2 a:m, and butchered every person in one of the compounds and escaped after alarm was raised.
