PREPARE AGAINST FLOODING LASG WARNS RESIDENTS LIVING IN COASTAL ANDROID LOW LINE AREAS.

The Lagos State Government has advised residents living in the coastal and low line areas of the state to prepare against flooding.

The government explained that the advice became imperative because of impending over-flooding of the low line areas with the release of water from the Lagco Dam in Cameroon.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Oluwatoyin Onisarotu, said the outcome of the 2015 Flood Management Stakeholders Roundtable Meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of the Environment in Abuja showed that the state should be on the alert against flooding.

Onisarotu said, “There are possible consequences of the release of water from the Lagco Dam in Cameroon and its attendant effect will be seen on the coastal areas and the wetlands.

“It was also disclosed at the Abuja meeting that the release of excess water from the dam might cause flooding that will affect the Benue River Basin and places like Adamawa State and the Niger-Delta, among others with flooding problems.”

The permanent secretary said the state gover
ment had put in place proactive measures to mitigate the effect of the water release in Lagos. Punch
