BBC could revive sitcom hero Frank Spencer for new series of Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em

The hit slapstick show was axed 37 years ago but stars Michael Crawford and Michele Dotrice are said to have held talks for a comeback

Calamity caper Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em could be set to blunder back on to TV.

The hugely popular sitcom, featuring disaster-prone Frank Spencer and his ever-patient wife Betty, was axed 37 years ago.
But BBC bosses believe now could be the right time to bring back what is considered one of the best British sitcoms of all time.
Stars Michael Crawford and Michele Dotrice are understood to have held talks about a revival.
Dotrice, 67, currently starring in West End stage show The Importance of Being Earnest, appeared to let the secret slip in an exclusive interview.

Asked if she plans to work again with Crawford – who wrote the sitcom’s last nine episodes – she admitted: “Well, I can’t really say, but yes.
“Possibly next year – but I can’t really say anything about it.”
Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em was first broadcast in 1973 and ran for three series, ending in 1978.
Famed for the elaborate stunts performed by Crawford, now 73, it followed Frank’s many ups and downs in his hapless attempts to find a job he could keep.




And it won viewers over with his desperation to make a home for Betty and little baby daughter Jessica.
While the first episode was watched by 7.6 million people, the 1975 Christmas special pulled in 25.6 million.

Dotrice, whose actor husband Edward Woodward died in 2009 , added: “I look on it very fondly. It’s wonderful it still goes out on television to a new audience.
“It’s like looking at my daughter Emily. She’s 32 now and gets totally embarrassed with my outfits, with bunches and everything else.”
