Revenge: Stacey says Hughes was drunk and jealous
A domestic abuse victim has told how she escaped from a shallow grave after being left for dead by her cruel fiance.
Terrified Stacey Gwilliam, 34, was choked ­unconscious by bodybuilder Keith Hughes, 39, before he hid her beneath a heap of branches and leaves.


She said: “I thought I was dying, I digged with my nails and dragged myself out.”
Hughes faces life imprisonment after being convicted of attempted murder.
Hulking Hughes choked his 5ft 2in tall bride-to-be and hid her body after they got into a row during a seaside stroll.

Stacey said Hughes was drunk and they argued during the stroll when she refused to take him back. 

She said: “Just before Keith attacked me he said, ‘If I can’t have you then nobody else is ever going to have you’. He suddenly grabbed me from behind in a head lock.
“I dropped to my knees and there was a struggle but I couldn’t get free because he is 14 stone and as strong as an ox.

“I ended up lying on my back on the ground with him on top of me with his hands round my throat.
“I was trying to gouge him and fight him off – he was just glaring at me. He jumped on to my chest with his knees and then seemed to let me go.
“I started to get up to run away but he grabbed me by the neck and pushed my face into the ground. I couldn’t breathe, I was completely out.”
