GOLF: Ngugi drives an eagle to scoop last leg at Karen

Ngugi on Wednesday completed a three rounds total of three under par 213 to win the third and final leg of the Barclays Kenya Open pre-qualifying events at Karen Country Club. Ngugi, who had already qualified for the Open through the 2015 KCB Tour, posted a final round one under par 71 which included an eagle three at the third hole and a birdie three-at the fourth, and at the 17th and 18th, to beat day two leader David Wakhu of Royal by a shot.

Wakhu started the day well, rolling in a birdie putt at the first hole though two late bogeys on his first nine and one more at the back nine saw him finish in second place after a one over 73 for a total of two under par 214.

He won 26 points towards the qualifying series plus Sh30,000 while the winner of the event Njuguna Ngugi pocketed Sh40,000. 

Sigona’s John Wangai tied for the third place with Vet Lab Sports Club’s Nelson Simwa on two over par total of 218.
