Nigerian League: Disu Backs Players In Protest Against Slavish Contracts
Former Nigeria international, Tajudeen Disu, has given his endorsement
for players in the Nigeria Premier League to walk out of debtor clubs.
"Yes, we want to make sure that slavery for Nigerian footballers is over. Almost every team in Nigeria are owning their players, and at the end of the season they will sack some of them without paying them, and evenmaking it tough for them to be cleared."
Disu highlighted the flaws in the contractual agreement between clubs and players and why it has been easy for clubs to owe their players in the Nigerian league.
"My objective is to make sure we help players get their monies and also make sure these players sign contract papers," Disu told Completesportsnigeria.com
"Most of the teams don't give these players contract papers. So when they sack them, they won't have any document to fight them. A lot of things are wrong in the system, and we want to correct them."
The issue of league clubs owing their players backlog of salaries and
sometimes being intimidated was one of the low points of last season,
and ahead of the commencement of the 2015/2016 season, Disu who is the
Director of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) and
Chairman of the Lagos Players Union spoke exclusively to Completesportsnigeria.com on the worrisome issue.
"I support in its entirety, players in the league leaving debtor clubs after two weeks of prior notice," Disu stated. "Yes, we want to make sure that slavery for Nigerian footballers is over.
