Saudi man sparks controversy by covering wife with headscarf while eating in restaurant

 



An image has emerged online showing a man in Saudi Arabia covering his wife from sight while they eat in a restaurant.
The picture shows the couple sitting together at a both with a glass partition.
Despite the fact the women appears to already be wearing the government enforced 'abaya' - her husband seems to have draped a scarf over the glass to shield her completely from public view.


While the image invited criticism from some quarters, others complimented what they saw as the man's 'protectiveness'.
Some even went as far as to suggest the man should be praised for taking his wife out in public and not leaving her at home.
In the highly religious country, women are not allowed to leave the house without a male chaperone.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enforces a strict, and some would argue a twisted, version of Islam known as Salafism or Wahhabism.
This interpretation and its implementation places strict limitations on the life of women.
