A schoolboy was fatally stabbed in the heart after he 'lashed out' at another pupil who called his mother fat, a court has heard.
Bailey Gwynne, 16, was rushed to hospital after being knifed in the chest during the fight at Cults Academy in Aberdeen in October last year. 


Doctors fought to save the 'pale' and bleeding teenager, but despite their best efforts, he passed away.
Another 16-year-old was later arrested and charged with murdering Bailey.
Today, the suspect - who denies the charge - appeared at the city's High Court to hear witnesses begin giving evidence in the case.

One witness who saw the fight broke down in tears twice as he was asked about how the fight began between Bailey and the other teenager.

He said the pair had begun name-calling and punching each other after Bailey refused to give someone a biscuit during his school lunch break.
He said he did not remember who started the fight, and defence counsel Ian Duguid QC produced a statement which the witness gave to police after the incident.
A passage read to court said: "(The accused) said something like your mum's fat, then Bailey lashed out at him.
"Bailey grabbed hold of (the accused) and pushed him about. (The accused) started to defend himself and they've started grappling."
When asked by Mr Duguid: "Is this the way it was?," the witness replied: "I think so."
In today's evidence, the witness said the defendant - who cannot be named for legal reasons - pulled out a knife or sharp object from a pocket inside his jacket.

"It went into Bailey," he said.
