Here’s what happens to your body when you chew your own hair WARNING: GRAPHIC FOOTAGE AND IMAGES

Chew your own hair? Because this could be what you’re facing.

Doctors in India removed a massive hairball weighing 2.2lb from a teenage girl’s stomach, after she had been consistently gnawing on her hair for five years.

The 17-year-old, who has not been named, was admitted to hospital in Pune with severe stomach ache on Saturday.

Her pain was so bad she could barely walk, and had completely lost her appetite.

Doctors carried out a thorough examination, including doing CT scans, and were shocked to find two pounds of hair and a large lesion in her stomach.
We carried out a couple of tests and during gastrointestinal examinations it was found there was a tumour of 17 by 14 centimetres, and at the border there were thin black coloured threads, like hair.
‘It took us an hour and a half to retrieve the hairball. She is doing well now.’
