THE INVASION of killer hornets has begun - with sightings in Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Devon over the last week.

The UK could be invaded by killer hornets which send their victims into a fatal anaphylactic shock.
Growing to nearly 1.5-inches long, the Asian hornet has such a powerful sting it can kill humans in minutes.
Six people in France died after being stung last year, with the potent venom causing them to go into severe anaphylactic shock - dying just minutes after a sting.

 
The hornets first arrived in France in 2004 after arriving in a shipment of pottery from China.
Already widespread in France, fears have now been raised that they are on their way to the UK after a string of sightings over the past week.
The Asian hornets - called Vespa velutina - are able to kill off a hive of 30,000 honey bees within hours, with each hornet scoffing up to 50 bees a day.
Bee keepers have now been put on red alert by the National Bee Unit (NBU), which works for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Warnings from bee keepers across the country are to be vigilant and call the Food and Environment Resource Agency, Fera if one is spotted
