Successful singer and model 'set fire to her bedroom because she wanted to die'

A successful singer and model who became addicted to heroin set fire to her bedroom in bid to kill herself.
Delline Bass had enjoyed a good career singing and modelling in London after leaving home at 16 to work in the capital.
A court heard the mum-of-two’s marriage broke down last May and she came back to South Tyneside to live with her mum.

 
The 38-year-old had developed a heroin habit and was suffering from mental health problems, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

In January, Bass asked her 64-year-old mum for money and when she refused she trashed the kitchen then went upstairs and started a fire in her bedroom.
Her mum and her mum’s partner were in the house at the time but Bass, who had taken sleeping tablets and drunk a bottle of brandy, said she just wanted to kill herself and would never harm anyone else “in a million years”.

Luckily the fire was small, didn’t get out of control and Bass rang the fire brigade to raise the alarm.
Now, she has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.
Judge Edward Bindloss told her: “These cases are always serious because there can be devastating consequences when a fire gets out of control.
“Property can be damaged and people can die.”
The court heard Bass, of Oxford Avenue, South Shields, had been brought back to the North East last year by her ex-husband after her life went off the rails.
