Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey reveals she could be STRUCK OFF for returning to UK with the virus

The heroic British nurse who survived Ebola says the stress of possibly being struck off for returning with the virus to the UK is becoming unbearable.

Pauline Cafferkey – who won a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain award last year – still has an official inquiry hanging over her, more than 18 months after she returned to Britain.

She is at risk of being struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council .

Speaking for the first time of her plight, she said: “The report on how they are dealing with my case is still ongoing.

"I don’t know why it has not been finished. It’s very stressful. It would be nice to have closure.”

Since 2014, she twice came close to death – from Ebola and from meningitistriggered by the virus – and spent three periods in hospital isolation.

Pauline is working again but can’t go back to home visits because she can’t drive, due to meningitis seizures.

Talking of her lowest point, she said: “I said to a doctor: ‘Just drill a hole in my head.’ I was just a mess.”

I just want to do something positive for the children,” she said.

Pauline and fellow Ebola survivor Corporal Anna Cross received a Special Recognition award on behalf of the thousands of UK volunteers in Sierra Leone at Pride of Britain 2015.
