The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department has confirmed that a police officer was injured during high-speed chase in Etwatwa, which also resulted in the death of the civilian driver.
According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago, police officers on a routine patrol tried to stop what they deemed a suspicious-looking Volkswagen Golf 5 for inspection.

“The driver refused to stop and a high speed chase ensued until the VW Golf was cornered and stopped at the intersection of Chris Hani Drive and Madikizela Street in Etwatwa,” said Kgasago.
“The aggressive driver wrestled with one of the officers and in the process managed to grab the officer’s firearm…a shot rang out and the officer suffered a neck wound.”
The second officer retaliated by firing at the suspect, inflicting fatal injuries, before the injured  officer was rushed to hospital for treatment.
