#7 – Ghanaian Chief Takes Up Gardening To Provide For His Village

Eric Manu is the epitome of a servant leader. Last year, Manu was crowned chief of the Akan tribe in the village of Adansi Aboabo 2, southern Ghana. This year, he returns to British Columbia, Canada to resume his job as a landscaper to raise money to improve the health care in his hometown.

“Vancouver residents looking to hire some landscaping help this fall could end up with royalty tending to their hedges and bagging up leaves,” writes Jeff Lagerquist for CTV News.

Manu relocated to British Columbia four years ago after he got married to a Canadian woman he met in Ghana. But after the death of his uncle, who served as chief of the Akan tribe, two years ago, Manu returned home to Ghana to assume the position of Chief.

Seeing the condition of his people, the humble leader chose to return to his landscaping job in Canada where he is raising money to improve the welfare of his people. Manu told CTV News that when he’s on a job, people occasionally recognised him from seeing him on television, and would often inquire of him, “… Why are you doing the landscaping?” Manu says he is doing this to raise money to help improve the standard of health care in Adansi Aboabo 2 — a village of about 6,000 people.
