Man burns to death 'after trying to set his estranged wife ablaze'

A refugee in Germany has burned to death while trying to set his estranged wife ablaze.
The woman, who is believed to have been separated from the man, was seriously injured during the incident.
The 45-year-old man, who has not been identified, launched the attack earlier today in Ruedesheim on the Rhine river in the central state of Hesse, France24 reports.



Part of the building was damaged in the blaze, police have revealed.
The man, whose nationality was not given, was reportedly already known to local police.


The injured woman was taken to hospital by helicopter, police said.
Two other people were reported to have been injured in the blaze in the shelter that houses 14 people.
German chancellor Angela Merkel has been criticised in some quarters for her 'open door' policy for refugees after took around one million people sought asylum in the country last year.


A further 300,000 people are expected to arrive over the next 12 months.
The huge number of incomers are currently being housed in hostels, sports halls and army barracks.
The cramped conditions have led to incidents of violence at times, which have horrified public opinion in Germany.
