Daredevil Instagrammer Dies While Scaling Brooklyn Train

Sources say he may have been trying to snap a photo when he was hit.

Photographer Christopher Ashton Serrano, who dazzled Instagram followers with challenging, and unusually beautiful snaps of city life at often dizzying heights, died Wednesday trying to scale a moving train in Brooklyn, according to a Digital Rev report. He was 25.

Serrano had been with a female companion when he exited the F train headed for Coney Island to scale the train. Digital Rev cited sources who said they think Serrano fell to his death after possibly being clipped by something the train whizzed past. His body was found at 5:12 a.m. EDT.

Serrano’s daring work, part of a larger trend called “rooftopping,” is still viewable on his Instagram account Heavy Minds and provides a chronicle of urban life from oddly serene angles that often prompted users to ask how he managed to pull it off. “How Dafuq you even get up there without getting arrested?” one user asked of this image taken above the George Washington Bridge:

Serrano attracted over 100,000 followers for his work, and his last photo, posted four days ago, was an unnerving shot taken with his feet dangling above Times Square:

Serrano’s brother Ryan posted a tribute on Instagram after his death, saying he would never forget their adventures, and wished he’d taken more photos of his brother.
