Footballer tells court alleged victim said he could 'join in' sex

Footballer Ched Evans is in the witness box giving evidence in his rape retrial today.

Evans faces allegations that he raped a woman at a hotel in North Wales in 2011.


Wales international Evans, 27, denies the charge against him.

The defence started its case today and Evan told the court he is planning to have more children with his fiancée Natasha Massey.

He told the court the alleged victim said he could join in a sex session between her and Evans's pal Clayton McDonald.

The defendant said: “When I saw them, she was asking Clayton to f*** her harder.

“When I walked in, the door slammed and they both looked at me.

“Then Clayton looked at her and said: ‘Can my mate join in?’ She looked at me and said yes.”

Defence barrister Judith Khan QC asked: “Is there any doubt in your mind she was consenting?”

Evans replied: “No.”

Ms Khan asked: “Did she appear to be too drunk to consent?”

The defendant replied: “No.”

The defence barrister asked: “Did you rape (the complainant)?”

Evans said: “No, I did not.”

Last week the court heard how the complainant, then 19, was allegedly attacked by the striker at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, North Wales.

She told the court that when she woke up she "just felt dead confused".

She said: "I didn’t know where I was. I felt dazed.”

But defence barrister Khan suggested the woman “took the lead” when having consensual sex with two other men - one shortly before the alleged rape and the other shortly afterwards.
