The horrified bride-to-be, Hastapuram Mounika, 18, was reportedly forced to watch as her parents and relatives dragged Mahankali Anil, 22, from a Hindu temple where they were due to wed and into the street for the honour killing.
Witnesses described how the water worker's throat was slit - and then his head and body were crushed with the boulders in the shocking incident in Thimmapur, central India.
Reports also said Mahankali was also stabbed several times - and beaten black and blue.
Hastapuram had to reportedly be dragged from the scene.
The pair had been seeing each other for more than a year - during which time her parents had tried to keep the in-love couple apart.
