Footballer who survived tragic plane crash takes first steps as he recovers from multiple fractures
Chapecoense player Alan Ruschel, who was communicating only with gestures last week after miraculously surviving the plane crash that killed 19 of his team-mates, has taken his first steps in hospital.
The defender, 27, was the first to be rescued after the devastating crash in Colombia that took the lives of a total 71 people.
After suffering multiple fractures in the disaster, Ruschel is recovering in the Somer Clinic in Rionegra, Colombia.
A video has been released showing him walking with support and giving a positive thumbs up, before delivering a message to those who have given their support.
"Thank you everyone, everyone worried about my recovery. This is Alan Ruschel,” he says to the camera in the above video.
