 A young man has been arrested after allegedly attacking his mother and his girlfriend with a sword and machete in a Sydney home overnight.
Police found the 26-year-old trying to smash his way into a bedroom in the Emu Plains home, after they were called to reports of screams and yelling about midnight.

He fled and was arrested after being found nude and armed with a knife on Forbes Street, near the Lucas Street property.

Police have confirmed the 58-year-old woman is the man's mother and the 22-year-old is his girlfriend. 
They were found in a bedroom with a number of slash wounds to their heads, necks and stomachs and taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. Their conditions has since improved to stable.
