Wife's 'relief' as her policeman husband will be allowed to die after he was left in a vegetative state in horror smash

Tragedy: Mrs Briggs, pictured with her husband Paul Briggs and the couple's daughter Ella

The wife of a policeman left in a vegetative state after a horror smash told of her 'relief' last night after it was confirmed a judge's decision to allow doctors to stop providing life-support treatment will not be challenged in the Court of Appeal.

Lindsey Briggs said she is 'forever thankful' for the court ruling that PC Paul Briggs, 43, should be taken off life support and receive palliative care.
Mr Briggs, a Gulf War veteran, has been in hospital since he was hit by new driver Chelsea Rowe, 26, while he was on his motorbike in July last year.

He suffered fractures to his spine and a bleed on the brain.
