Mexican Immigrant Marries U.S. Woman For Green Card, Then Gets Charged With Killing Her.

Valdivia and Lopez married in Mexico in 2007, but the man reportedly married Cabrera in an effort to obtain legal residency in the U.S., The Fresno Bee reported. Police said the official motive was unclear, but believed it was connected to the relationship between the two suspects, who arrived in the U.S. illegally, and their victim.

Cabrera, a mother of four, apparently knew her marriage to Valdivia was a sham, but investigators believed that Valdivia and Lopez threatened her if she ended the relationship.

“This is a very unique case in that there is not a body,” Boudreaux said, according to The Post. “With the evidence at the scene and what we’ve collected from the suspects, we’re confident that they’re the sole people responsible for her death.”
