Donald Trump’s new travel ban will have ‘same basic policy outcome’

 


AFTER his controversial travel ban was torpedoed by the courts, US President Donald Trump vowed to unveil another one.

Now a top policy adviser for the Trump administration has revealed what the new executive order on immigration will look like.


Fundamentally you’re going to have the same basic policy outcome for the country.

The last ban temporarily prevented travel of immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries to the United States.

It was halted when a Seattle judge slapped a temporary restraining order on the executive order, which was upheld by a higher court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

At a White House briefing on Wednesday spokesman Sean Spicer said the ban would not target Muslims specifically. “This is country-focused issue, a security-focused issue,” Mr Spicer said.

This backs away from much of Mr Trump’s rhetoric on the campaign trial where he called for a total ban on Muslims entering the US.

“One of the big differences that you’re going to see in the executive order is that is going to be responsive to the judicial ruling, which didn’t exist previously,” Mr Miller said.

He added: “We’ve got a serious problem in our country of terrorism, radicalisation and serious problems of people joining ISIS, joining terror groups, joining al-Qaeda and committing or attempting to commit acts of crime and terror against our nation.”

The new executive order is expected to be unveiled this week.
