Mysterious ailment kills 3 students in Zamfara School

 

A mysterious ailment has killed three students in Mu'Allah Yadi Senior Secondary School in Maradun Local government area of Zamfara state, Commissioner for Education Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga told Daily Trust on Wednesday.

Lugga said the medical team sent to the school by the state government is yet to unravel the mystery behind the death of the three students and the other two affected students are responding to treatment in a hospital.


" I went to the school yesterday to assess the situations and I found out that there is no cause for alarm. The remaining students are being observed and we set up a camp in the school for emergency response,"he added.

He further explained that unconfirmed reports by the medical team showed that the students might have been infected by Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis adding that the students' hostels are being de-congested and the students advised to maintain a well ventilated atmosphere.

"Even though, the medical team are yet to confirm the cases we are doing this as a precautionary measure. We also refused to close the school so that the affected students will not infect other residents at home in case the ailment is a contagious one,"he said.

He then called on all stake holders and other individuals to remain calm and not to panic as government is doing every thing humanly possible to bring the situation under control. He said the they are collaborating with ministry of health to detect and understand the nature of the illness.
