550 Flights Have Been Cancelled Due To Strike Action by French Air Traffic Controllers

 

Tuesday's strike affected flight routes particularly in the west and south of France, and meant about seven per cent of scheduled flights were cancelled, a spokesperson for the French civil aviation authority (DGAC) told EFE.


The cancellations were in line with the DGAC advice given to airlines last week to reduce flight schedules by 25 per cent in the west and 33 per cent in the south.

Connections with Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Maghreb were the most affected.

In addition to strikes at the control centres of Brest and Bordeaux, where action began a day before, the centre in Aix en Provence joined the strike Tuesday.

At 2130 AEDT, there were delays of between 30 and 60 minutes at the airports of Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nantes, Marseilles and Lyon.

The protest, called by air traffic controllers' union UNSA-ICNA on Monday and was set to go on until Friday.
