Bound, Raped and Thrown In a Dam Alive

A file shot of Ebony Simpson.Bargo schoolgirl Ebony Simpson.

IT WAS very early in his career when forensic counsellor and psychologist John Merrick learnt that it took a village to heal a soul.

It was one tragedy in particular — the brutal murder of a defenceless nine-year-old schoolgirl — that changed the way he counselled witnesses or heartbroken families who had lost loved ones.

On August 19, 1992, Ebony Simpson was bound with wire, raped and later thrown into a dam alive in Bargo with her schoolbag weighed down.

These are the bleak details revealed in the autopsy report that Mr Merrick reviewed and then to Ebony’s parents, Christine and Peter.
