Group demand release of Kogi ALGON chairman

A group, Kogi Integrity Group (KIG) has demanded for immediate and unconditional release of the Administrator of Ijumu local government area/Kogi State ALGON chairman, Alhaji Taofiq Isa who has been in police detention for about six days over his alleged involvement in the assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye.
Addressing a news conference in Lokoja on Sunday, Leader of the group, Bar. Zaccheus Dare Michael, said it was "wrong and dehumanising" for the police to have kept the Administrator for such a long period without trial.
He said, "In as much as we don't want to interrupt the ongoing investigations on the alleged assassination on Dino, we demand that the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris to immediately order the release of Hon. Taofiq or charge him to court because his continuous detention is violation of his fundamental rights."
According to the group, the Administrator was allegedly being persecuted on political grounds, adding that the whole circumstances that surrounded the alleged assassination attempt on Dino indicated that the whole thing was "stage-managed".
The group urged Senator Dino Melaye to use his position to bring development to constituents in his senatorial district rather than "with-hunting perceived political enemies without recourse to the rule of law"
