What Happens To The Palm After Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday marks the day Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on a donkey, just a few days before he was betrayed by his friend Judas Iscariot, one of the 12 apostles, put on trial and sentenced to death by crucifixion.

The day is called ‘Palm Sunday’ because the people of Jerusalem threw palm leaves to the floor as a greeting when he arrived.

Nowadays Palm Sunday is commemorated by a ritual procession of people carrying palm branches, or if these are not available, branches from yew, willow and olive trees into church.

For this reason Palm Sunday is sometimes called Branch Sunday.

These palms are then blessed, and sometimes fashioned into crosses.

Palm Sunday is always the Sunday before Easter and is also the final day of lent.

Because the palms are blessed they cannot simply be thrown out as rubbish or discarded.
Instead, the palms are burned after being used during the Palm Sunday ceremony and the ashes are used to mark parishioner’s foreheads on the next Ash Wednesday (start of lent).

Following the backlash that trailed her performance at Shatta Wale's Reign Concert over the weekend, Ghanaian singer,  Fantana  has now released a statement.  The singer stated that she is not ashamed of being a woman and also mesntruating. Her statement read in part;  "Regardless of my costume being transparent, my only option was to put on a sanitary pad and still go ahead to perform. I am a woman and I’m not ashamed of menstruating. "I want to urge every woman to resist being discriminated against because of menstruation. I hope some people read wide and learn about menstrual health to stop the stereotype against young girls and women. "Yes my menses appeared 30 minutes to my performance and I had to put on a sanitary pad and still go on stage. "Menstruation is not a shame and I urge all young women take a cue from my actions and not to let it stop them from doing anything they want to do."

Over the weeks now Nigerians are being saddled with the news about the police refusing to leave the premises of a serving Senator, Dino Melaye, but some Nigerians online expect that this over-zealousness at getting the Senator could possibly be used in securing lives and properties of Nigerians on a daily basis.
