Behold this photographer's glorious celebration of bums
While out in the real world, women’s bodies are varied and glorious, the images with which we’re presented on our screens and in the pages of magazines are, well, not.

They’re photoshopped. They fit a norm of slim, white, hairless, and smooth.

It’s frustrating, because having this norm makes it seem like this is the only acceptable way for women to be.

*To be clear, NSFW photos of the many different acceptable ways women can be are below so you have been warned*

It makes it seem as though if we don’t fit that standard – whether due to our size, our body shape, our cellulite, our hair, or our skin colour – there’s something wrong with us.

That’s not the case. But it’s hard to ignore this message when it’s hammered in by every advert and bit of popular culture we see.

There is one way to take down the narrow definitions of what women’s bodies should be: change the way they’re represented. Add some diversity. Widen the perspective to show even a glimpse of the variety out there.

Photographer Ashley Armitage is leading the movement. He says he wants people to appreciate their bodies irrespective of the size and colour.
