Today Wednesday October 3rd 2018, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) arraigned  Mr. Gbenga Makanjuola, Deputy Chief of Employees to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki,  Kolawole Shittu, cashier to the Senate President; Robert Chidozie Mbonu, a former Managing Director, Societe Generale Financial institution of Nigeria, SGBN (who’s at massive), Melrose Basic Companies Restricted and Obiora Amobi, Operation Supervisor, Melrose Basic Companies Restricted.





They were arraigned before Justice Babs O. Kuewumi sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on an amended 11-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, cash laundering to the tune of N3.5billion ((Three Billion, 5 Hundred Million Naira). In December 2016, The president had released the sum of N522.74bn to be paid to 36 states as part payment of the over-deduction on the Paris Membership mortgage from 1995 to 2002.Paris Club Fund.





The EFCC found out that the mortgage refund was diverted to the account of the Nigeria Governors’ Discussion board, NGF, by the Central Financial institution of Nigeria, CBN. About N19bn was laundered by personal consultants.

Consequently, Justice Kuewumi remanded the defendants in Ikoyi jail and adjourned until October 9, 2018 for ruling on the bail purposes.





The EFCC had submitted a report back to President Muhammadu Buhari linking the Senate President and a few of his aides to the diversion of the sum of N19bn from the N522.74bn Paris Membership refund.
