Tanzania: Officials Order Anal Exams of 10 Men Arrested at A Gay Wedding in Zanzibar

Homosexual acts are illegal in Tanzanian and if convicted can be punished by a sentence of up to 30 years imprisonment. Authorities are carrying out physical examinations on the anals of 10 men suspected of homosexual activity on the island of Zanzibar.





Last week a group of men were arrested after police received a tip-off about a gay wedding at a resort hotel at Pongwe Beach last week. 






Local police chief, Suleiman Hassan said they are being checked to see if there are any signs of same-sex relations.
