Unlike The Indigents, Court Grants Dino Melaye Bail on Ground of Ill Health

This serves as a challenge to the legal profession to consider it an obligation to see that access to justice was available to all, without regard to ability to pay. The system not only robs the poor of their only protection, but places in the hands of their oppressors the most powerful and ruthless weapon ever invented - the court.

Senator Dino Melaye who is currently being held in a police health facility in Abuja has been granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, in Maitama on health ground.

The condition for bail amongst other is to produce three sureties, one of who must be the Clerk of the National Assembly, who is to sign an undertaking to produce him when he is to be arraigned in respect of a charge already filed against him, adding that the other two sureties must be owners of properties within the Abuja metropolis.

This is most times not usually the case if the accused was an indigent member of the society.
