FIDA DELTA CREATES AWARENESS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN. DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR WOMAN STRIPPED DOWN , BEATEN, BOUND (Hand and Feet)
Following an online video depicting a woman being publicly stripped naked and beaten by one Friday Eluro, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Delta State branch on Wednesday the 13th of February 2018 demanded that the perpetrator be made to face the law.
In an awareness campaign to three major offices namely: the office of the Secretary to Delta State Government, the office of the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and the office of the Commissioner for Police in Asaba, FIDA Delta expressed displeasure at the alarming rate of violence against women in the society and the trend of stripping and debasing women for any perceived infraction or wrongdoing.
The SSG Hon. Festus Ovie Agas who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jerome Morka, the Commissioner for Justice, Peter Mrakpor Esq and the Commissioner of Police, CP Adeleke Adeyinka all spoke at length and assured FIDA that justice must prevail, stressing that Governor Okowa had demonstrated good leadership by stripping Friday Eluro off his office and directed that he should be investigated and prosecuted according to existing laws. The A-G commended FIDA Delta saying that he is very happy FIDA is working in Delta State.
Spokesperson of FIDA Delta, Pleasure Ebbah-Mukoro (Mrs.) on behalf of the Chairperson, Mrs. Omezi Okus said it was unfortunate that women are made to face such debasement. Stressing that just about two percent of such barbaric acts are in the public glare while others are left unnoticed.
She reiterated that FIDA Delta, more than ever before is alive to her responsibilities in promoting, protecting and preserving the rights and wellbeing of women and children in Delta State and will keep track of this case.
