Michael Cohen Calls Trump a 'Conman' and cheat'. Says Trump Lied About Hush Money, Knew About Stolen emails
'I am humbled to be given the opportunity to tell the truth' Cohen can be heard while briefing the press.
Who is Michael Cohen? Donald Trump's former fixer whose loyalty melted away under legal heat.
He had produced a $35,000 cheque showing that, while in office, Donald Trump personally reimbursed him for paying off porn star Stormy Daniels in the days before the 2016 election.
In explosive testimony to Congress, Cohen said: "The president of the United States thus wrote a personal cheque for the payment of hush money as part of a criminal scheme to violate campaign finance laws."
The cheque, dated Aug 1, 2017, was pursuant to the cover-up, which was the basis of his guilty plea. He received a total of 11 cheques from Mr Trump over a year after making a $130,000 payment to Ms Daniels, Cohen said.
Cohen also claimed Mr Trump knew in advance that Wikileaks was going to release emails hacked from the Democratic Party during the 2016 election.
He also claimed the president implicitly instructed him to lie to Congress over a plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, and suggested that Mr Trump had advance knowledge of a controversial meeting between his son, Donald Jr., and a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in New York during the campaign.
The matter was thereafter adjourned and possible witnesses may be called.
Mr Elijah Cummings, the community chairman while speaking with journalist said,
Two years ago i said that Hilary Clinton n Donald Trust running against each other was not about them personally but it was about our democracy. Today was an important day and 200 years from now people will be reading this that we have a situation were we have strayed so back and today was a opportunity to be on the right track.
We had criticisms about Cohen's testifying but the truth is Americans want accountability and today we must be a community with integrity by retaining civility, information without suppressing you the journalist.
When asked if he believed Cohen he told journalist that,
I deeply appreciate Cohen for coming to testify and i believe he said the truth.
I want the president to know that 'if' he went out there and did something for only 45% of the people and not for the entire people, he should think about children in cages, children who were separated from their families.
