A British Woman has been Detained in Dubai in 2019 for Calling Ex-husband's Wife a 'horse' on Facebook Post in 2016.

Laleh Sharavesh (right), pictured with her 14-year-old daughter, Paris, has been arrested in Dubai for making a disparaging comment about her ex-husband. The woman has been prevented from leaving Dubai after she called her ex-husband's new wife a "horse" on Facebook in 2016.





Dubai police confirmed a 55-year-old British woman was being tried for defamation under the UAE's cybercrime law.

Unbeknown to Ms Sharavesh, her ex-husband’s current wife had officially complained to authorities about the Facebook post, which had described her as “a horse” and the husband as “an idiot”.






While Paris was released, Ms Sharavesh has been left stranded in Dubai, her passport confiscated and fighting legal charges which could bring about a jail term and a fine of hundreds of thousands of dollars.





Police said the woman had never been held in custody, but had confessed to making the statements and refused attempts to settle out of court.





Ms Sharavesh wrote on Facebook in Farsi:





“Khak bar sareh bishooret! Lanat be to. Mano vell kardi Barayeh in asbbb” (I hope you go under the ground you idiot. Damn you. You left me for this horse).”





A second post said: “Ba yek horse aroosi kardi ahmagh” (You married a horse you idiot).
The campaign group Detained In Dubai said Ms Sharavesh has acknowledged she shouldn’t have lashed out on her ex husband’s Facebook page but said she felt angry, betrayed and hurt.
