Waking The Dead: Munira Abdulla Rises From 27 years Coma and is All Grateful

Most comas do not last for more than two to four weeks, but there are patients who have woken after decades A woman staging a miraculous recovery after waking from a near 30-year-long coma is grateful for the global outpouring of support she has received.

Emirati mother Munira Abdulla has won worldwide attention after The National revealed her remarkable revival from a road crash more than 27 years ago, which left with a serious brain injury it was feared would claim her life.

Munira Abdulla, who was aged 32 at the time of the accident, suffered a severe brain injury after the car she was travelling in collided with a bus on the way to pick up her son from school.

Omar Webair, who was then just four years old, was sitting in the back of the vehicle with her, but was left unscathed as his mother cradled him in her arms moments before the accident.

Ms Abdulla - who was being driven by her brother-in-law - was left seriously injured, but last year regained consciousness in a German hospital.

Omar has opened up about the accident and about his mother's progress following years of treatment in an interview with the UAE-based newspaper The National.

He says that some of his mother's have suddenly resurfaced and are now forcing him to allow them see her. But he has told them be patient untill she recovers fully.
