Breaking: Delta state Governorship Election Petition Pre-hearing Kicked off Today and Ends Same Day.


THE 2019 Delta state election tribunal has kicked off at the state capital, Asaba, Delta on Tuesday.





The tribunal has the petition before it challenging the victory of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded general election.





At the inaugural hearing an opening speech being first of its kind was shared to all lawyers representing parties in the matter. A pre-hearing heard so fast saw Senior Advocate of Nigeria and their team who represented the PDP and lawyers who represented the APC were called upon to identify the petitions and applications filed and unlike other petitions being handled by other Tribunal panels, the Pre-hearing session was head and concluded same day.





Thereafter, the tribunal fixed 31st of May for the pre-hearing report and 31st June for trial.





The court room was filled up to the brim with lawyers, INEC officials and party observers.





Divaviva111 observed that sitting arrangements were made even outside the courtroom for observers of the process which reduced the standing up of some aged ones.





Speaking during the opening of the proceedings, Chairman of the Tribunal, urged all to conduct themselves in a mature manner, assuring that all parties would be given equal opportunity to make their case.





“We assure all stakeholders that each litigant will be given equal opportunity to present his case in a mature manner before us.





Those present at the tribunal includes the Hon. Attorney General of Delta State, Peter Mrakpor, Kevin de Ogunwumiju, the NBA Asaba Chairman, Eruli-Ede and a host of others.
