The senate has now summoned the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, to a brief on the current state of facilities and health care services in Nigeria’s teaching hospitals as reported online.
By a motion moved by Senator David Umaru, he said that the media had reports of detailed evidence of poor electricity supply, obsolete medical equipment and decayed infrastructure in both private public teaching hospitals.
In one of the reports, the president of Nigeria medical Association had said that anyone with ''cancer or life threatening diseases is bound to die''
The Senate has however, urged the Federal to immediately adopt short and long-term measures that will holistically address the challenges confronting our teaching hospitals.
Furthermore, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who presided over the session, blamed the decay in the country’s health facilities on corruption and summoned the Minister of Health for questioning since according to the senate president,
Every year, a budgetary allocation is made. No matter how inadequate it is, surely it should be adequate to be able to take care of patients.”
