Zainab Aliyu All Smiles With Nigerian Officials After Release From 4 months in Detention
Zainab Aliyu who is considered to be one of lucky Nigerians alive had been in detention since her arrest in December when a banned drug, tramadol, was found in her bag on arrival in Saudi Arabia.
Investigated revealed that she fell victim to a drug cartel at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, that specialises in keeping hard drugs in travellers’ bags.
Report also has it that this cartel has been in the business of stuffing hard drugs into the bags of unsuspecting travellers, which has led to their death according to the laws of Saudi Arabia.
Aliyu's continued detention sparked sympathy as the claim that she was innocent spread wide. Gladly, the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Nigerian government had succeeded in establishing her innocence, hence her freedom had been secured. She has been all smiles to Allah for saving her neck.
How many others have been sentenced to death for a crime they didn't commit in Saudi Arabia? We hope that the agency in charge will investigate it's employees and fish out those who sponsor this cartel.
