Sanwo Olu Wins At Tribunal For Inability of Petitioners to file Prehearing Notice.
The Election Petitions Tribunal holding in Lagos state has dismissed the petitions filed by the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Owolabi Salis, and his Labour Party counterpart, Ifagbemi Awamaridi, challenging the victory of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the last election for inability of the petitioners to file their applications for Pre-hearing conference after the close of pleadings which according to the Electoral Act, they had seven(7) days.
Time is an important consideration in the scheme of things as far as election petition before the courts are concerned. Most steps in the course of election petition are required to be taken within particular periods with failure to comply attracting serious consequences. Election Petition cases, though sui generis, are not free from time constraints as far as taking of certain steps in the course of such proceedings are concerned.
Congrats to the Gov. of Lagos state Sanwo Olu
